The tyres you choose will have a major role on how your car steers, accelerates, brakes and feels when driving. A big question some people have is, will paying more for a certain tyre be worth it? In this article we will discuss Premium, Mid-Range and Budget tyres. Buying the right tyres for your car is an important decision. They connect you and your vehicle to the road, providing safety and comfort for a smooth ride. We understand that price is important, but that should not be the sole factor in selecting your tyres. Why do we say this? This is because your selected tyres will have a major role on how your car steers, accelerates, brakes and feels when driving.

The first thing you need to do when buying a tyre is to make sure you know the correct size. After that you will find numerous brands to choose from. It will be up to you to decide the quality of tyre and the price you want to pay. At Tyres2Door, we make sure you will find plenty of brand options, be it budget, mid-range or premium that you are looking for.

Below we will offer some pointers on premium, mid-range and budget tyres:

Premium tyres

The top tyre manufacturers invest millions into research and development. The goal being to develop new premium, top of the line tyres, that perform at the highest of levels.  High quality tyres can last between 15,000 – 20,000 miles. Their high quality design also gives them less rolling resistance, which makes them quieter, and also improves fuel economy and grip. The stopping distances on premium tyres are shorter than in cheaper range tyres.

Some brands that we recommend are Continental, Pirelli, Goodyear, Bridgestone, Hankook, Michelin or Dunlop.

Mid-range tyres

A tier below the premium tyre brands are the mid-range tyres. They offer a balance between the performance of a premium tyre and the value of a budget tyre. For everyday driving, like a commute to work or driving your children to sports practice, mid-range tyres can provide excellent value for money.

In the mid range brands you will not see the same price point as in the premium tyres. Although they are not as expensive, they are still tested and manufactured to keep you safe on the roads. These manufacturers invest heavily in tyre technology, delivering a comfortable ride for thousands of miles.

Depending on the purpose you will be using the tyres for, they actually can provide great value for money and can also have a long life span on the road.

Some brands that we recommend are Firestone, Yokohama or Toyo, to name a few.

Budget tyres

Just like most things you buy, the price is usually reflected in the quality of the item. Tyres are similar. The amount invested in budget tyres is not the same as premium tyres. As a result they do not always go through the same diligent production process. Thus, they usually do not last as long, lasting around 7,000 to 8,000 miles.

Make sure to choose the right tyre for your specific vehicle

Each type of vehicle requires a specific tyre, it is important to make sure you have the right model for your vehicle.

Run-flat

A run flat tyre is designed with the specific purpose to keep you moving for a short period of time if you suffer a puncture. You will not be able to drive for hours on end, but they should give you enough time to get off the road to safety.

Run flat tyres can not be fitted to every vehicle. They are only fitted to vehicles that are designed for them. You can always refer to your vehicle’s handbook if you are not sure whether it can allow for run flat tyres.
